November, 2020

Dear Parishioners of Saint Rita’s and Saint Anthony’s,

As I write to you today the Coronavirus is surging, and I pray that you are staying safe, following the protocols by washing your hands and wearing a mask and the other government mandates. This has been and continues to be a time of great challenges and demands as we take care of one another as best we can. I write with information to guide you in making your Mass participation plans for Christmas. While State and local requirements are always subject to change and often at the last minute, please check the parish website ( or the parish Facebook page for any last minute updates.

As you are well aware, our celebration of Mass in the midst of the current coronavirus pandemic has been impacted in significant ways with changes and restrictions in place to help ensure a safe experience for our faithful people. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO UTILIZE THE PARISH MASS RESERVATION SYSTEM  (SEE BUTTON BELOW) ON THE PARISH WEBSITE (ANTHONYANDRITA.COM) or by calling the Parish Office at Mattapoisett.

It goes without out saying that Christmas this year in our parishes will be different and not without challenges. Even this year, in all likelihood, Christmas will draw a greater number of parishioners and visitors. Reservations are imperative, to insure that we have the required Contact Tracing List and not exceed the restricted capacity. In light of this, there can be no walk ins without the reservation and ticket for the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Mass which you have chosen. Our restricted capacity is currently 100.

The dispensation of the obligation to attend Sunday and Holy Day Masses continues to be in effect. Just a reminder that the Church’s celebration of Christmas does not end on Christmas Day but continues for eight days, ending on January 1, 2021, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. Vulnerable, at risk and otherwise concerned persons should make a judgement about whether to attend in person with perspective in mind.

The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Mass Schedule is as follows, all Masses will be at Saint Anthony’s Church, Mattapoisett:

Christmas Eve

3:00 PM

6:00 PM

10:00 PM

Christmas Day

8:00 AM

9:30 AM (livestreamed on parish Facebook page)

What you need to do to participate in one of these Masses.

  1. Make a reservation online at the Parish Website or call the Parish Office in Mattapoisett (please do NOT leave any messages regarding these Masses on the voice mail.)
  2. Decide on the Mass you will attend. Once you have made this decision, it is final.
  3. You must pick up your tickets at the Parish Office. We cannot mail them.
  4. No one will be admitted without a ticket.

I realize that this is a lot to consume and to do, in order to attend Christmas Mass, but it is for the welfare and safety of all our faithful parishioners. Again, we need to take care of one another, and to follow all the mandated protocols regarding attending Mass in person.

As the feast of Christmas approaches, it is our heartfelt wish that you will experience the peace of Christ, our Savior in a very special way during these challenging and difficult times.

This is also an occasion to thank you for your generous support of our parish. Your efforts are deeply appreciated. God bless you all.

Wishing you and your loved ones, a blessed Christmas and happy, healthy New Year.

Sincerely yours in the Infant Savior,

Father John C. Ozug
